It seems to be an artefact of my age but an argument for why ‘digital-media’ is by its nature a bad thing needs to be made; perhaps as an out-turn of the younger generation’s age. Because of my (relatively) older age and experience of a physical-only age of ownership I’ll make that argument. And all I need to do is point my finger in Sony’s direction.

In a sad but unsurprising statement made on the official Playstation website that a TV guide-full of programming from Discovery Plus will be removed from the Playstation store and the accounts of anyone who purchased them through the Playstation store from the 31st of December 2023. Sony said:

As of 31 December 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library.

Whatever the ins and outs of the ‘licensing arrangements’ between Sony and Discovery it remains the case that Sony was in a position to make money from them, Discovery was in a position to make money from them but the people who have spent money on these programs are set to leave empty handed.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’ probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.

Something I’m doing at the moment? Collecting Legendary Pokemon that I missed in Arceus and Sword the first time around.
