Japanese games magazine Famitsu brings together a host of game developers to ask about their aspirations for the future as we near the end of the year.

One contributor that caught everyone’s attention was Mr. Hironobu Sakaguchi. Mr. Sakaguchi, if you were unaware, is one of the most influential creators in the video games industry. As the creator of the Final Fantasy series he is one of the foundation-layers for the JRPG genre. Not only did

Mr. Sakaguchi have a massive impact at Square (now Square Enix), but he then left to found Mistwalker—the studio behind Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and The Last Story.

It looked like 2022 would be the last year for Mr. Sakaguchi, with reports about his impending retirement. Mr. Sakaguchi has put retirement plans on hold though in this Famitsu story. He took his small interview to explain that he is not done with games yet. Not only is he enjoying Final Fantasy XIV, but Mr. Sakaguchi has confirmed that he is writing for a dark fantasy title that Mistwalker is currently developing.

Mistwalker’s last game was the well received Fantasian (a title that we at Stage-Select are still hoping to see come to consoles at some point).
