Finally, An Update On The Polymega

0

For a few reasons Playmaji and their Polymega console have caused a stir over the internet in retro and emulation gaming circles, and not always for good reason. Although the device, which allows gamers to play and copy CD based games (not necessarily in that order) from a plethora of older consoles, as well as serval cartridge based ones, has received positive reviews from people who have actually got their hands on one, a terrible delay thanks to the component shortage has left many waiting for orders to be shipped for prolonged periods. When I write prolonged I don’t mean a couple of weeks. Some customers have been waiting months (Stage-Select has) and others for over a year to receive the Polymegas they ordered. With scant information about when they could expect to see they orders fulfilled some gave up and cancelled (understandably).

But Now there’s good news because Playmaji has confirmed that all outstanding pre-orders can expect have them packed and delivered somewhere within the time frame of July 1st, 2023 to October of 31st, 2023.

If you aren’t too clear on the just what the Polymega is, it’s an emulation console with a modular design. The ‘base unit’ has a CD drive to allow games from the Playstation, Sega Mega-CD, Sega Saturn, PC Engine CD and NeoGeo CD to be played directly from their discs, or copied to an SD card or hard drive to play from there. The modular part of the Polymega comes from the add-on modules, which can be combined with the base unit to allow the reading of cartridges from the NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive and even PC Engine Hu-cards.

The convenience of playing so many titles from so many systems in one place is very appealing to some gamers with larger collections of older titles, but the frustration from delay after delay to actually getting the Polymega consoles into peoples’ hands has been almost tangible. Now that it looks like things are finally back on track for Playmaji after a hard time of it, customers might finally be able to dust off some of their old games for a new playthrough.

If and when the Polymega eventually arrives here at Stage-Select we’ll be sure to gig you our thoughts on the retro device.
