If you haven’t heard of Nightdive Studios, they are a publisher and developer known for enhancing older games and bringing them to modern consoles; the likes of Shadowman and Turok are just a couple of the titles that the remaster masters over there have brought forward to current-gen systems. And if you haven’t heard of Atari, well, I’m surprised you’re reading a videogames blog: let me tell you a little story that starts in the 1970s—what? We don’t have time for that? They’ll just have to buy Atari 50? That’s a shame.

Anyway, the news that Atari have decided to purchase Nightdive Studios looks to be very smart business. Nightdive have proven themselves to be specialists when it comes to revitalising retro titles, and the volume of Atari’s catalogue of just that is staggering.

So can we expect to see some classic Atari games come crashing into the current crop of consoles? Probably. Atari CEO Wade Rosen said:

‘Night Dive’s proven expertise and successful track record in commercializing retro IP is well-aligned with Atari’s strategy and I am confident that their combined talent, technology and IP portfolio will contribute to Atari’s future success.’
