Capcom, Just Where Is The Mega Man Legends Collection?

As hard as it is to believe, Mega Man 11 is the best selling entry into the long running franchise with a little more than 1.5 milllion copies of the game sold. That number seems so low for a series that has such a dedicated fanbase and so many entries, but by the standards of most video games, books and films, selling over a million copies is outstanding. The thing is, Mega Man Battle Network is on course to assail Mega Man 11’s record easily, having already passed a million sales in less than a month since its release. With that in mind I have to ask: Capcom, just where is the Mega Man Legends collection?

With the great value present in the Battle Network collection gamers just couldn’t say no—so why is it that perhaps the now least available series in the Mega Man Universe continues to flounder on the original Playstation; languid efforts moving the games to Japanese and Asia only markets on the PSP, as well as to digital stores being the only attention Capcom has paid the Legends games since the first released back in 1997.

There were a few of ports for the original to the Nintendo 64 and PC, among others, but that is only the first of the three games (the other two being Mega Man Legends 2 and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne), and it requires a Nintendo 64 to play, of course. But suppose you have a working Nintendo 64 setup and an original Playstation, then you could at least pick up the three games couldn’t you? Not unless you have upwards of £300 that’s burning a hole in your wallet. Yes, as it is at the moment, buying three games that are over two decades old will cost you literally hundreds of pounds (the state of videogame collecting today).

The half-hearted moves to digital are much the same; all three games came to the PSN on the PSP, Vita and PS3, but none of the three are available on the PS5, Xbox Series or Nintendo Switch stores as of writing—not that we’re looking for digital releases of the games anyway. No, here at Stage-Select what we want is physical games – on cartridge or disc – so where are they? The string of Legacy collections that have released mean that now the original Mega Man, X, Zero and aforementioned Battle Network games are available on current consoles, even if Capcom have done a terrible job of consistently bringing them over; some have all the games on disc, but the Switch releases only have half the games for the original Mega Man, and Capcom of Europe have decided to largely ignore European markets recently, not even releasing the Battle Network collection physically. But even before the recent Legacy releases on current consoles, collections for most of the Zero games and all the X/original Mega Man games were on either the PS2, Gamecube and 3DS in one fashion or another In all that there was seemingly no room for a Legends collection, at least as far as Capcom were concerned.

Now that we have the Battle Network games in one collection surely it’s time Capcom rectified that and brought the under exposed Legends games to fans old and new, so we can all enjoy some of the finest entries in the series.
