Somehow a slew of documents that were part of the court battle involving Microsoft and the FTC over the Activision Blizzard purchase have leaked on the internet.

Appearing on a government website, the document revealed a number things; let’s go over the two most interesting.

The first thing is that is that a new version of Series X is apparently on the horizon. Codenamed Brooklin, which is supposed to come out sometime in 2024, will add extra storage and will be digital-only.

The Series S wasn’t forgotten either. The slim cousin of the Series X is getting a new version codenamed Ellewood.

The second thing is that Microsoft still feels that Nintendo is an acquisition target. Yes, even at being ‘laughed’ at, when Microsoft first floated the idea of a purchase of Nintendo (laughed at by Nintendo bigwigs back when Microsoft was first looking at enter the videogames industry).

Phil Spencer reveals in one of the leaked documents that he believes ‘Getting Nintendo’ would be good for both companies, but the big N is a stubborn target, and Phil says that until Nintendo realises that its future is not on its own consoles any such move would be difficult.

So more digital-only consoles, and Nintendo is still a dream acquisition for some in the company—good to know.

Ed-itor-in-chief

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’ probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.

Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection, and all the other mainline Final Fantasy games up 12 on the Switch.
