Hyper hype!? Mega Technology!? What does it all mean!? I don’t know actually, but if all of this I confusing you, let me tell you what we do know.

A new website has turned up for something called Hyper Mega Tech; a new endeavour from Blaze, the people behind the Evercade. Although Blaze are tight-lipped about just what Hyper Mega Tech is, the official website has a countdown that is set to end on the 12th of July, 2023—that’s three days from writing.

Countdown to 12/07/23

According to the FAQ page of the official website, the question “what is HyperMegaTech?” the answer is:

HyperMegaTech is a new retro entertainment brand from Blaze Entertainment, the makers of Evercade. With HyperMegaTech, we are able to bring great licenses and properties together with retro and nostalgic products featuring modern sensibilities, and deliver them to a wide audience of fans and retailers. We will be releasing our first two products in Q4 2023.”

That doesn’t really tell us a lot, though it does mean HMT is a new brand, and that Blaze are sticking with their current method of using already existing intellectual properties.

Another question on the FAQ section of the website asking “is this just retro games?”

is answered:

No. Whilst video games makes up a lot of the current activity for Blaze Entertainment in a public facing way, product design and handling of properties that we license are not limited to retro gaming. We will also be looking at developing products for modern properties either in a retro style or sensibility as well as reinvigorating the existing retro market.”

From that it reads as though the HMT brand will be used to diversify Blaze’s output from the Evercade and classic games. Does that mean we won’t be seeing any games with the Hyper Mega Tech branding? It’s hard to say at the minute, but we really need to keep an eye on Blaze at the minute; it seems like the people over that never sleep.

Ed-itor-in-chief

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’ probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.

Something I’m doing at the moment? Being impress by Project Firestart.
