Blaze’s Evercade platform is really something quite special. It might not be particularly massive, but that an unknown company has managed to put together a viable business of not just a new games console but a family of them, and with physical media no less, is really quite impressive. The games industry is particularly unforgiving at the moment, no to mention competitive, but Blaze has continued to expand their range of licences to more and more games. Now the company is moving on to its next big move: ‘Giga Carts’.

Up on the official Evercade website Blaze goes into more detail. Basically the giga carts are the new format that Blaze will be introducing to the Evercade platform; they look just like any other cart but will have greater storage capacity. This means Blaze will have a wider range of possible games that they to could look to licence, with Blaze themselves specifically mentioning ‘larger and more modern retro games, mostly originally released on CD’.

The new Giga Carts will be distinguishable by a logo specific to them; and we’ll be seeing the first games to come on these new, bigger carts later this year.

The Crying Stars Is Available Now

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Returning to the many Final Fantasy games on the Switch to complete a couple more.
