While I’m almost certainly in the minority, my favorite of The Witcher trilogy is the first game in the series.

For those who haven’t played it, the first Witcher is a much different affair compared to the games that came after it; the first Witcher does not feature a sprawling open world, the graphics are a bit “simpler,” and overall, the game is quite challenging.

These are just a few of the areas where the first game differs from its sequels. However, perhaps the greatest divergence taken by later Witcher sequels is a steady move away from raunchy themes. So, it should come as little surprise to learn that the remake of the original Witcher, currently in development with a team dubbed Fools Theory, will change or remove any and all “bad or outdated” elements of the game, according to Fools Theory CEO Jakub Rokosz.

Exactly what content will be cut from the original, Mr. Rokosz was unwilling to divulge at this moment. However, it’s almost certain that the female character cards, which served as a reward for romancing certain female characters in the original game, will not be returning in the remake.

Such surface-level changes are unlikely to affect the quality of this remake; however, I do wonder why a game that will surely have an adult-only rating of 18 would need to remove a couple of character cards featuring a few of Geralt’s lovers in a mild state of undress? Especially as the original Witcher title and its forthcoming remake will undoubtedly feature Geralt slaughtering countless men, women, and monsters as he goes about his adventuring.

Apparently, at some point in time, death became less offensive than a pair of women’s breasts; go figure.

As of writing, The Witcher remake has no scheduled release date and no scheduled platforms to appear on. However, it is widely believed that the game is aiming for a 2026 release on PC, Xbox, and PS5.
