First Playstation, Then Xbox
Things are looking down
We already knew Microsoft wanted to do away with physical games (I’m surprised it didn’t get more attention when talk of a digital only console and gaming as a service was at it’s peak), then Sony came out and said they would cease making physical games in 2028. Well, if you needed a timely look at what digital only games are going to look like in the future you can see what happened last week and this week.
Yes, last week Playstation’s network went down, and just in time for the testing of their big new brawler Marvel Tokon, leaving fans scratching their heads as they tried to get into some crime fighting fisticuffs. And this week we’re seeing problems with Xbox servers, and because of that you won’t be able to play your games; you may have bought them, but Microsoft don’t feel comfortable letting you play them without an online check (as does Sony) you’re out of luck. Welcome to the future, you don’t own a thing.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Returning to Turok with the collection on Switch.
