Ocarina of Time remake revealed
Remaking Greatness
This was the week of Nintendo, with two Direct events; and the Zelda 40th anniversary Direct had what is probably now the biggest game of the year. It’s not going to surpass the sales of the bacterial popularity of Grand Theft Auto 6 (I’m not sure anything could) but we’re talking about a remake of the greatest game ever made, and it’s not getting the Final Fantasy VII Remake treatment—thankfully.
There was a little talk about the Zelda movie and special edition hardware, but the Direct was really for Ocarina of Time. Nintendo has indicated that, while the remake is certainly adding gameplay improvements over the original version and the obvious graphical power hikes, they are aiming to retain the form of Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, even keeping certain loading times in the game.
For me the remake is looking very promising, and I’m now excited for the 5th of November, 2026, the release date for Ocarina of Time on the Switch 2, what a month.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing dome of the survival horror games in my GOG and Steam libraries.
