Volition is no more. The studio behind the Saints Row franchise has been dissolved as part of cost cutting measure by parent company Embracer Group.

The news of Volition’s dismantlement might seen sudden, but Embracer made it clear earlier this year that the holding intellectual-property-powerhouse would be looking to slim down production after massive planned partnership deal fell through.

Despite a strong history Volition’s more recent games have fallen short of fans expectations, and the poor state of their final game, a Saints Row reboot to the series, was the final nail in the coffin after what seemed like open contempt for some of the series’ fanbase and the even worse launch-state of the game, which was plagued by bugs.

Saints Row will be available for Playstation Plus subscribers in the month of September, 2023.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’ probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.

Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection, and all the other mainline Final Fantasy games up 12 on the Switch.
