Tim Stamper

Stamp of approval

Do you know who Tim Stamper is? If you do, of course you do, and I bet you want to know more. If you don’t know who he is, well you should. Mr. Stamper is one of the two bothers (the other being Chris Stamper) who founded Ultimate Play the Game, then Rare; two massive names in videogames over different eras. Some of the best 8-Bit, 16-Bit and 64-Bit games came with the Stamper Brothers, but despite their undeniable Legacy the brothers have remained mostly out of the spotlight, preferring privacy over publicity in the years since they left Rare, But in a recent post on his X account, Tim Stamper has written ‘It’s finally time to let go of my reputation for secrecy.’ in the post he mentions that he has retained ‘many documents and relics’ related to his time in videogames, so we might be in for a treat of videogaming history. And for someone like me who grew up with the stuff the Stampers did with Nintendo but has only started an acquaintance with their Ultimate Play The Game fare (mostly thanks to The Spectrum), I’m really interested in learning more from the man himself.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing dome of the survival horror games in my GOG and Steam libraries.
