1: Super Mario Bros. 3 was directed by Shigeru Miyamoto, who also created the Mario franchise and many other iconic Nintendo games including The Legend of Zelda franchise and the Mario Kart series.

6: The island with the castle in World 3 resembles Japan, with the castle being the location of Kyoto, Nintendo’s headquarters.

7: The 7 Koopalings are all named after famous musicians:

Iggy Pop, Wendy O Williams, Roy Orbison, Lemmy Kilmister, Larry Mullen Jr, Morton Downey Jr., & Ludwig van Beethoven.

8: The whistle sound is the same tune played when you blow the whistle in The Legend of Zelda.

9: The inspiration for Chain Chomp came from an actual event that occurred in director Shigeru Miyamoto’s childhood, during which he was pursued by a neighbour’s dog until it was forcefully pulled back by its chain.

10: Super Mario Bros. 3 was the first Mario game to feature a credits sequence, which included a humorous “cast of characters” section.
