Sony cuts the bungee cord

There’s been plenty of talk about the troubles over Xbox and the studios either closing, getting sold off or facing staff firings, but things aren’t all sunshine and smiles over at Playstation either.

Sony already confirmed that firings would hit Bungie, mainly focused on the Destiny team, but some would also be on Marathon, Bungie’s new onine game. Although the exact scale isn’t confirmed, it’s clear that Bungie will be suffering firings in the not the tens but the hundreds.

It’s perhaps not so surprising, there’s been news of Sony’s dissatisfaction with Bungie’s performance. Financial returns from Bungie games haven’t been staggering, and the prospect of Bungie effectively having input over Playstation’s online games across the company hasn’t produced the next Fortnite that Sony was looking for.

What this means for Marathon and Bungie going forward isn’t clear, but it doesn’t look good.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Taking the Multisystem 2 for a spin.
