Atari’s avaricious appetite for acquisition has not yet acquiesced to financial attrition despite buying old intellectual properties, retro game remaster meisters Nightdive Studios; they even a made a minority investment in retro console Polymega makers Playmaji.

The latest news is that Atari are to purchase retro compilation cognoscenti Digital Eclipse.

The people over at Digital Eclipse have a healthy background in handling retro games with compilations such as the Samurai Showdown Collection, the Teenage Mutant Turtles Cowabunga Collection and most importantly for Atari is the Atari 50 collection.

The only obvious connection between all of these deals is the recurring retro game theme, and with Atari seemingly affirming their faith in classic Atari titles with the remakes of games like Haunted House it will be interesting to see what will come from all these dealings.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’ probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.

Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection, and all the other mainline Final Fantasy games up 12 on the Switch.
