Final Fantasy VIII Remastered – Square Enix says Digital only

The remaster of Final Fantasy VIII is one of my most anticipated games of the year after its announcement at E3. One thing that disappointed though was the fact that the games looked to be digital only. Well when Play-Asia put up a pre-order option on the I, along with many others, felt there might just be a chance that we could be seeing a physical release after all. That idea was quashed however, and by Square Enix themselves no less. The confirmation was given over on the official Square Enix Japanese website, noting that platform releases are ‘All download sales only‘.

As for Play-Asia, they have removed the pre-order page.

So as far as Square Enix is concerned, there will be no physical release for Final Fantasy VIII.
