E3 Is Cancelled

Organisers were positive about bringing the world’s largest videogames convention last year when they promised the show would come back, and in a real way too — in-person and not just over the internet. But those aspirations have failed to produce fruit, and now E3 has been cancelled for the year 2023.

Many were whispering as much before, what with an ever increasing list of high-profile companies about the games industry withdrawing from the show (and some not being a part of it to begin with).

The whole thing leaves a question over whether there’s a place for a show on the scale of E3 today. There a so many ways – man of them cheaper – for companies to put together a presentation of all the titles their have coming up in the future: why bother with the cost and hassle involved in what amounts to a middle-man like E3? It’s hard to come up with a good answer.
