Alien Isolation 2

Are you feeling isolated?

Many modern horror games often fall short for me. Horror, pure horror that is, often manifests in the videogame industry as a run-and -hide sort of gameplay, something very different to the survival horror that I grew up with. Although I’m not asking for every game to be Resident Evil or Silent Hill (not that I’d complain), but I find the narrow approach to gameplay that so many of these titles disengaging. One game that got the feeling right for me was Alien Isolation – one of the best horror games in years – that gave us that I don’t think I should fight that thing feeling, without the ‘walking simulator’ elements. You’d have thought we’d see more from the Isolation series given how good was received, not just how good it was, but it’s actually been more than a decade since the original release, with the odd port and remaster to tide us over. But Alien Isolation 2 looks to be on the horizon. Sega (publisher) and Creative Assembly (developer) released a new trailer to the official Alien Isolation Youtube channel, and although it doesn’t show much, it’s great to see that Sega hasn’t left the franchise to vanish.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Taking the Multisystem 2 for a spin.
