Project Helix

New head of Xbox Asha Sharma has given us just a little bit about the plans for the next-box. Going by the codename Helix, the next Xbox console will be positioned somewhere between a console and a PC by the sounds of it, with the new machine being able to play both Xbox games and PC ones. What this is going to mean for the distinction between Xbox Game Pass and its PC counterpart who knows, but we will hear more at GDC (runs from the 9thof March to the 13th), since Ms. Sharma has confirmed that she will be speaking more about the console there.

Something else this news does is add weight to the rumours that Sony is planning to stop porting their own games to PC, since a new Xbox console with access to Steam would be, in effect, porting games to Xbox.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Finally tackling Octopath Traveller 2.
