The Spectrum

Retro Games Ltd has been teasing what their next games console will be, as the emulation impresarios have had a swirl of speculation over their ‘roadmap’ of future unannounced console releases. Well a listing of Symths Toys (that’s a big chain retailer in Great Britain for those that don’t live here) looks to have announced the next emulation machine early; and it looks like Retro Games Ltd is going to be bringing back Sir Clive Sinclair’s 8-Bit ZX Spectrum.

The ZX Spectrum was a computer that saw massive success in the early 80s, seeing sales in the millions. Although it might not be the most well known retro videogames platform today, there’s still a large base of Speccy (an affectionate nickname) fans today, as well as those like myself who are less familiar with the colour clashing slab, but interested to see what all the fuss is about.

The Symths Toys listing has ‘The Spectrum’ as release on the 22nd of November, and that the machine will come with 42 games installed, as well as the ability to play games from USB, as Retro Games Ltd’s other emulation machines allow you to do.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? I started dipping my toes in the vast sea of Kemco JRPGs.
