The Adventures of Elliot

Alundra but Squre Enix

The Nintendo Partner Direct was aired and the affair was as expected: not too surprise, not too exciting, but enough to give Switch owners something to look forward to. The event was really saved from just-enough induced boredom by Square Enix and the reveal of two new games from Team Asano, the team behind Bravely Default, Octopath Traveller and Triangle Strategy. Octopath Traveller Zero and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales were the two titles, and the Adventures of Elliot stood out. It’s the first action-roleplaying game made in the HD-2D style that Team Asano is known for; and the best high-concept description I can give of Elliot is Alundra but Square Enix made it. You can try The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales if you want to thanks to a demo that Square Enix has released, and I highly recommend you do, I’ve enjoyed it. But one wrinkle in my brow over the fun new game is that The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales might very well be a game-key only title on the Switch 2; in fact, it looks likely that it will be. It would follow along with other games Square Enix has released on the Switch 2, including what they’ll be doing with Octopath Traveller Zero, and Elliot isn’t coming to the original Switch, so no buying it on that and playing on Switch 2.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.
