Switch 2 Nintendo Direct

Nintendo aired their Switch 2 Direct, and while we won’t be going through every thing that was there, here are the highlights.
Starting first we have the console itself and some of the improvements we can expect from Nintendo’s next step in hybrid home-handheld games consoles. The Switch 2 is going to have a bigger screen at 7.9 inches (the Switch is 6.2 inches and the OLED version is 7 inches). It’s not only size that’s changed either; in handheld mode the Switch 2 will run games as at as high as 1080p and 120 frames per second (that will be dependent on the game), and when docked the Switch 2 came output up to 4K. Then there was the big news on release dates and pricing; releasing on the 5th of June, 2025, the Switch 2 will cost £395 on its own or £429 if bundled with Mario Kart World (more on that game in a minute). In Europe the Switch will cost €469.99 and $449.99 in the U.S.A.

Then there were the games. There wasn’t too much coming directly from Nintendo but that’s what I expected. What was there still looked good though, and that was Mario Kart World (yes, Nintendo is finally done selling people Mario Kart 8, although I don’t know who is let to buy a copy anyway). We saw just a little bit of Mario Kart already but now we have a name and release date, and it’s going to release as a launch title.
There was another big Nintendo game too; Donkey Kong is back in Donkey Kong Banaza,
a new 3D platformer. Kirby is making a return too with Kirby Air Riders, which is being made by HAL labs and Masahiro Sakurai, who returns to the franchise.
