More Square Enix, Less Square Enix

Square Enix & Switch 2
Square Enix has been less than impressive over quite a long time now. The Japanese videogame giant (made up of what was the two biggest Japanese RPG developers) has failed to meet the very high standards that Square set themselves years ago. The decline of that quality is no more clear than in the Final Fantasy series, and that decline has been felt no more sharply than in Square’s financial figures; and if there’s one thing that will get the attention of a publicly traded company it’s a bad financial report.
In a recent meeting to outline future strategies for the company, Square Enix has said (in not so few words) they will focus on developing fewer titles of higher quality, as well as bringing games to more platforms. This means that a number of games that were underdevelopment have been cancelled and we can expect to see more games after Bravely Default remaster coming to the Switch 2.

Playing videogames, writing about
videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up.
Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only
little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m
not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking
out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from
today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it.
Something I’m doing at the
moment? Tackling the hefty
Yakuza: Like A Dragon and the first Lunar game.
