More Sega Revivals

We knew Sega was looking to leverage their older franchises to generate sales in the future from a financial strategy some years ago; then came the news that Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi was coming back. But things might not be ending there.
In an interview with Game Informer, Mr. Kagasei Shimomura of Sega said that there are ‘other things’ that have been announced, but ‘not only games’, and that Sega is ‘really looking forward to growing several of our IPs and making sure that we have several fun things coming up in the future.’
It’s likely that Sega would be considering comics and possibly even movies for some of their franchises after the success of Sonic’s move to the big screen; but for me, the most important thing is that the games are able to retain some of the feeling that the classics did. Streets of Rage 4 was a fine game, but was it Streets of Rage 2? No. There are a lot of reasons for that too, not least of all the novelty of such games no longer really existing in a time when there is so much more competition for people’s attention. Another is the more away from what were more simple game mechanics and presentation to what might be described as modern expectations—but who knows, this might just be the start of a return of Sega’s classic characters.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Tackling the hefty Yakuza: Like A Dragon and the first Lunar game.
