Halo remake

What remains?

I hold my hands up and confess that I am not the biggest Xbox fan. The Xbox and the Xbox 360 were both good consoles, perhaps even very good (Microsoft’s first Xbox being my favourite), but the Xbox One was where things began to sour. I believe there are a lot of older Xbox fans that feel the same way, and the focus on Game Pass over a traditional approach to console games has left a lot of us feeling cold. However, there are still fans of Microsoft’s beleaguered box; and then Halo was announced for Playstation.

Halo Studios officially announced that, along with the news that a remake of the original Halo was on the horizon, they also announced that the remake would be releasing on PC and Playstation. That’s right, Halo, at one point the banner of Xbox, the colossus, is coming to the Playstation 5.

It’s hard to see that latest move as anything other than Microsoft waving a white flag over their console. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Microsoft is concerned with selling Game Pass, not hardware. They’ve already moved several of their games to console competitors; though I shouldn’t call them that since Microsoft consider Tiktok and movies their competition over other consoles. They’ve increased prices rather than reducing them to make the Xbox Series a more compelling option for fans, and the price of Game Pass for that matter—and now Halo has made the jump to multiplatform.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing though Lost Eidolons and Unicorn Overlord.
