Embracer Group

Sell, sell, sell

Things certainly have changed for Embracer; not too long ago the mega-conglomerate was buying more videogame developers and publishers than an arsonist buys matches at a fire-sale, but now Embracer has sold off two of their studios acquired back in that buying mania. It was back in 2024 when the multi-billion dollar deal between Embracer and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund fell through, and since then Embracer has been selling and closing as many of those acquisitions as it can get away with in order to balance books.

The latest sale is for Cryptic Studios (City of Heroes) and Arc Games (Remnant series). Interestingly the buyers of two studios is a group of Arc Games managers called Project Golden Arc. The news is hardly a surprise, being part of the financial strategy Embracer has been pursing almost immediately after their 2023 deal broke down, but I’m curious what Golden Arc Project has in mind for Arc games now.

Ed-itor-in-chief

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Chest thumping Donkey Kong Bananza.
