The biggest surprises of the recent game awards were undoubtedly the return of Onimusha and Okami. The two Capcom properties have been thought finished, never to see anything beyond a possible remaster or two in the future. However, not only will there a new entry into the Onimusha series, but Okami is getting a sequel from Hideki Kamiya—who saw that reunion coming? Now Capcom is saying they have plans to revive other games from their back catalogue. According to a statement on their official investor website:

‘In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.’

So what can we expect to see from Capcom? Well I know what I want to see. Apart from a collection of the classic Resident Evil games (that 0 to 4, with Remake included too), the other thing that I’d really like to see is a return for Breath of Fire; a collection of the games, 1-5, and, although I think it’s a lot less likely, a new game in the series.A collection with the first five games, along with digital manuals and models from the original game boxes, artwork and maybe even interviews with the people behind the games, that would be great. A new Breath of Fire game would be more difficult given that the team behind the series has since moved on from the great JRPG series. But we can always hope.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? I started dipping my toes in the vast sea of Kemco JRPGs.
