Bungie Snaps

No bounce-back
I was one of those with an Everest eyebrow back in 2022 when Sony Acquired Bungie. Yes, Bungie was a developer with a decent track record, and yes, they did have a moderately successful online-service based game franchise in Destiny; but the billions spent to buy the Halo developers just seemed a little too hefty. Perhaps Sony’s almost obsessive desire to make Fortnite (if only Epic hadn’t already) was the motivation to drop more dough than a comatose baker, but things haven’t turned out as Sony had hoped. And as a result of, well, they’re results, Bungie will loose the independence that they have been operating under. Effectively, Bungie will be absorbed into Sony Stuidos. What that will mean in the long term is the real question. As things stand Bungie is working on Marathon, but going forward who knows how Sony will approach Bungie and their creative efforts.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Fiddling with the Lenovo Legion Go.
