The name Acclaim was once – well – acclaimed. I’m not saying that the publisher didn’t face their fair share of criticism but let’s be honest, Acclaim, for all of their issues, had an impressive catalogue. Acclaim published properties that included Shadowman, Turok, Mortal Kombat, numerous pro-wrestling games and other comics franchises (to name only a few). But, despite the vast properties in their portfolio, Acclaim went under with crumbling finances in 2004.

All of a sudden things have taken a turn however; Acclaim are back, sort of. The company has been bought by a group that has revived the brand and will be publishing new titles, with a focus on independent developers.

Although this revival looks to be Acclaim in name only, it will be interesting to see just what the board of Acclaim do with the band vale their bought, especially when one of those board members is Jeff Jarrett—that’s right, that Jeff Jarrett: ‘Double J’, ‘King of the Mountain’, the guitar smashing pro-wresting legend Jeff Jarrett, founder of TNA Wresting and son of the massively important wresting promoter Jerry Jarrett. When I think about the successes that Mr. Jarrett has had in the world of professional wrestling world, I might be swayed into believing this Acclaim revival has a chance of success.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Playing through Neo Dimension Fantasian.
