Square Are Not Pulling The Trigger?

It looks like we all got a little too excited.
The many fan of turn-based RPGs (and just RPGs in general) out there have been enjoying something of a golden age that has straddled the Switch and current gen of consoles. There’s been Metaphor: ReFantazio from Atlus (on top of the obligatory Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games), the runaway success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the establishment of new franchise from Square Enix in the form of Octopath Traveller and Triangle strategy and the tidalic return of classic games from Dragon Quest 3 to the Final Fantasy Pixel Remastered collection—even Breath of Fire has seen a resurgence with Bof 4 coming to GOG.
So when news that a Chrono Trigger remake was accidentally revealed by Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii people got rather excited. However things weren’t as they were rumoured to be, and Gemastu has confirmed that the mention of Chrono Trigger was solely from the interpreter at the event, not Mr. Horii.
That might be disappointing to hear, but if we were in for a deformation of a classic like we got with the Final Fantasy 7 remake then we’re better off for not having a new Chrono Trigger remake.
