Boosted Backwards

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 updates are anything but interesting, with nebulous stabilitybeing the most popular word. Not so with the latest Switch 2 update though: a new feature has landed.

‘Boost mode’ is a new setting that Switch 2 owners can play around with to improve the display of Switch games (that’s the original Switch) when in handheld mode, bringing resolution up from the default 720p to 1080p; that means Switch games on the Switch 2 will output at the same resolution as when displaying on a TV but in handheld mode.

It’s important to remember that boost mode is for Switch games, it won’t improve Switch 2 games. Also improvements are not uniform, some games will seem greater gains than others, but it’s nice to see the massive library of the Switch getting some improvements—for those of us that have big Switch collections.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Finally tackling Octopath Traveller 2.
