3DO Mister

It’s R.E.A.L

It feels like it was only yesterday that the news hit the internet that the fruit of Trip Hawkins console ambitions, the 3DO, had a core in development for Mister FPGA devices. The news was a welcome sight of what would surely be a the long road of getting a beta build for the overlooked console from dual-ram devices to a fully working core for the great unwashed single-ram masses like myself: not so. It might not be fully working yet, but the clever fans behind the amazing growth of the Mister plaform have already got a single-ram version of the 3DO core up and running. Now it’s far from perfect, there are many games not running properly yet, and there’s still plenty of technical wizardy that people smarter than me will need to work befor we have a core that can be brought into the update-all script that brings so much fun to Mister fans, but this latest, unexpected development is a massive step to just that. And if you would like to try the work-in-progress 3DO core you can download it from the official Mister FPGA discord channel.

Playing videogames, writing about videogames, considering videogames—that about sums it up. Videogames are the one hobby that I’ve kept since I was only little, zapping ducks on the NES or knocking out MR. X. And when I’m not enjoying classics from the bit generation of games or checking out those earliest of polygons, I’m probably playing something from today’s age of modern gaming: if I’m not complaining about it. Something I’m doing at the moment? Taking the Multisystem 2 for a spin.
