We had a new Pokémon Direct from Nintendo yesterday (9/01/2020) and the big news is the approach of two new expansion packs of DLC that will add a sizeable amount of new content.

The expansions will bring two new areas to explore, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra. In the former you’ll be training under the master of a dojo, in the latter you’ll be exploring frozen mountains.

The packs will be sold together for a cost of £26.99 British Sterling or $29.99 US dollars. There will be a version of the packs that corresponds to Swords and another that corresponds to Shield, so if you own both games and want to experience the exclusive features that are promised for each version (such as different rivals), you’ll need to make two purchases.

There will also be new pokémon added, which will include returning pokémon from older generations and all new ones, new items and moves.

If you don’t purchase the expansion packs a free update will still allow you to own the new pokémon they introduce, but you’ll only be able to get them through trades with other players or through Pokémon, Home, Nintendo’s online Pokémon service.

The Isle of Armor is expected to be released in June 2020 and the Crown Tundra is expected for release in Fall 2020.
